It is something that you do to fuel your passions.Īs an artist, I don’t think you should let fear of failure hold you back. But the day job is not to be mistaken as a back up plan.

That’s why many musicians (like me) hold a day job that funds out passions. Shubhangi: In India, unfortunately, it is not easy to make a living from music immediately. That would let the others in the field know that you take your music seriously and are ready to invest in time and effort required in it.ĪM: How do you respond to the “back up plan” questions? Is there a back-up plan? Shubhangi: In order to be considered a professional, it is important to have good quality recordings of your compositions. Search for avenues (magazines/blogs/venues/ festivals) that support the kind of music you play, and explore what is possible with them.ĪM: How do you get started when transitioning to a professional status? Shubhangi: Having entered the field recently, I’d say focus on making music that you truly enjoy, and always be on a lookout for opportunities. All of this made me curious about music and I knew that was something that really made me happy.ĪM: How do things generally look for new musicians entering the field? Later, a few good friends at school introduced me to musicians that blew my mind. When I was 12, I started playing the guitar and liked how it sounded, so I carried on with it. There was a harmonium in our house and I fiddled around with it.

Shubhangi: My parents are music lovers so there was always music playing in the house – Good stuff ike Roja, Rudali, Bombay and the old Bollywood songs – so music became a part of daily life and memories early on. She wants more success and more importantly make more music and knows that she has a long way to go.Īakriti Mehrotra struck up a conversation with her.ĪM: When and why did you start playing? Basically, why music? How did you start out? In spite of already having done so much, at such a young age, she is like any other person who wants to do more after receiving his/her first affirmation from the audience. ‘Talking Away The Night’ looks far from someone’s debut since its so refined and bold. Why is it so endearing to hear a girl make her way through the music industry and do so with extreme panache and humility? 25 year old Mumbai based acoustic, folk, and rock inspired musician, Shubhangi Joshi, has much to be proud of- she just released a debut four track EP, ‘ Talking Away The Night‘, her first book of poetry To Stir Up an Ornate Nest and a music video for her album’s title track. We spoke to Shubhangi Joshi, Mumbai based Independent musician who just released her debut EP, a four track creative project, ‘Talking Away The Night’ as well as a music video for the title track.
